2004 May: Spoke at the "Fourth Estate and Third Sector" fellowship program, sponsored by the University of Mississippi, Department of Journalism. Topic: "Trench Warfare: Getting your first non-fiction title published."

2001 October: Participated in a panel: "The Changing Face of Health Care Providers" at the Association of Health Care Journalists annual convention in San Francisco.

2001 April: Invited to speak to combined journalism classes at Solano Community College, Vacaville, California, about how the Xiana Fairchild/Midsi Sanchez story developed as print news story.

2000  November: Participated in a panel: "Telling the Big Stories" at the National Writers Workshop, sponsored by the Poynter Institute.

2000  February: Spoke to broadcast writing class at Sacramento State University. Subject: "Writing and Delivering Radio News on the FLY."
